The Youth Philanthropy (YP) Project
The Youth Philanthropy (YP) Project is a group of youth between the ages of 10 and 18. The group is a youth board with elected officers leading the meetings. The YP Board’s primary task is to serve as a committee of grant makers for the Venango Area Community Foundation.
Community youth, involved in a non profit organization, submit proposals to the YP board for projects benefiting the youth of Venango County. A grant could be written for equipment, materials, special events or any program with goal of benefiting youth in our communities. The youth board then decides which proposal (project) receives money, how much, and how it is to be allocated. The YP Project is currently accepting grant proposals through April 29, 2011 for this years upcoming youth projects and events.
For the YP board to be successful, the participating youth are needed to unite the larger community and bring that community to their collective goals. The hope of this project is to empower youth and provide an opportunity for their ideas and opinions to count, to help them turn their ideas in to reality.
YP Project has been involved in many service projects throughout the years; Oil City Wash Day, visiting nursing homes, partnering with Caring Habits and the Oil City School District in a booth for Oil City 1st Night, and Children’s Day at the Mall. They took part in the first Oil City Anti Drug Rally. The YP Project was also involved with 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010 Youth Forum with the Venango County Focus on our Future Collaborative Board. YP takes part in the YMCA Youth Volunteer Program and helped the Chamber of Commerce with the Fun Fair during Oil Heritage week.
The YP Project was recognized in the Rotunda room in Harrisburg on June 5, 2007, as a program that builds good character in youth by the National Character Education Foundation. YP gives the opportunity to ask, serve and lead.
YP gives youth the opportunity to learn generosity in the only practical way; by being generous.
